Rothschild's pioneer work experience
I was lucky enough to get an offer for the pre-uni rothschild work experience, however unfortunately I cannot attend it. As irritating as it is to have to miss it, how beneficial would it have been to my career, and is this a good indicator for whether i'll get many springs if i get my grades for my low target?
Many thanks in advanced.
Securing an offer for Rothschild's pre-university work experience is a strong achievement and reflects positively on your potential. Based on the most helpful WSO content, Rothschild is highly regarded for its prestige, particularly in Europe, and is known for being selective in its recruitment. While missing this opportunity is unfortunate, it doesn't necessarily hinder your future prospects.
Here’s why it would have been beneficial: 1. Networking: Rothschild's programs often provide early exposure to professionals in the industry, which could have helped you build connections. 2. Resume Boost: Having Rothschild on your CV, even at a pre-university level, would have been a standout point for future applications. 3. Insight into Banking: It would have given you a clearer understanding of the industry and Rothschild's culture, which is known for its strong focus on self-responsibility and talent retention.
As for your chances with spring weeks, this offer is a good indicator of your potential. Rothschild's selectivity suggests that you have qualities top firms value. If you achieve strong grades and continue to demonstrate interest and capability, you should remain competitive for spring weeks, even from a low-target school.

You got an offer from a top place. You cannot be there for whatever reason. Case closed.
I wouldn't read anything more into it, especially extrapolating into the future. Life is full of opportunities (and randomness). Sadly we don't know when they will come knocking on our door or how many we will get.
Today you're at a top school, uni, job, tomorrow you're a broke bum and vice versa.
Stay in the present and focus on the things you control. Good luck.
Thank you for the response. I was wondering if you could tell me what career path allowed you to work in a hedge fund, as this is my dream career. Thanks in advance.
Of course. It was never planned. I wanted to be a golf pro and a philosophy professor. It didn't work out. So I went to business school and started out in fixed income at Deutsche Bank in the mid 90s. Circa 7 years later I was fired from my job at Bear Stearns as they shut down 1/3 of the bank in London in one day. I went to trade physical grain in Ukraine but that turned to sh*t too as first the winter frost and later the heatwave, destroyed the winter and spring crops respectively forcing the country to stop exports. I went back to banking but quickly moved to the buy side as I had people around me who would "listen" to my advice and gradually started managing some money. One thing lead to another and I set up a small hf. It's been wound down now. The end.
Life is random and never goes to plan. But everything is possible if you have the right attitude.
Good luck.
Thank you so much, it sounds like you had an incredible career. Hopefully if I put my head down and work, then one day I'll get to where you got to. Also out of curiosity, did you ever get to scratch?
