Same Bank Interview

My friends/careers service (and several other sources) told me that if a BB (investment bank) interviews you in a particular division once, and you are rejected, then they won't interview you again in that division for approximately another 3 years.

Is this true?

I'm speaking about London offices only. And I am mainly talking about the IBD division.

I am concerned this is true as a BB i was rejected from (after a first round interview) has not accepted my application again in 2 years. An inside source at GS told me that if they have rejected you post-interview before, and see your name again, they are highly likely to reject you pre-interview (unless you have a contact etc).

I have a buddy who was applying to MBBs for FT. Though he had been rejected the year prior for internships, he told me that OCR was very open to interview him again Senior year since he had already made final rounds as a Junior. (Edit: he did not get the job second-time around, if that makes any difference)

Obviously not IBD, but I think the answer to your question varies from institution to institution and depends on how you came off to the group's interviewers the last time and whether you can gain traction through your network.
