Should I Go Through With This Interview?
Hey,
I'm a senior undergrad that has accepted a pretty good job offer in finance. Not banking, but about 80k in an non-NYC city. Decent growth potential and hours.
I also have the option of interviewing with the federal reserve for a research analyst position at one of the district banks (not NYC). It would involve doing a lot of grunt / code work for more senior economists. Pay is probably about 50k (significantly less than my current offer).
I am inclined to decline the interview, because the pay is so much less and I don't see much room for growth (most people in this fed gig do it for a few years and then leave for grad school). However, I am wondering if I am making a mistake by not interviewing. Some questions I have:
-
Am I just paranoid, or is there a real risk that some meltdown occurs and the offer that I have is rescinded? If that risk exists, should I interview with the Fed and try to secure and accept a second offer knowing I would probably be bailing out of it later on?
-
do district fed banks have "prestige" and is that something I should consider?
-
is it wrong or potentially dangerous to interview with someone else after having accepted an offer?
-
knowing only the limited information that I have provided, would you interview?
Thanks for any suggestions you might have.
