Stick it out?

Current Sr. A1 in a tier 2 later stage growth group and previously BB IB. Culture is terrible at my current firm with fundraising non-existent but the cash + carry compensation remains above market with a clearly outlined promotion track to VP in 2-3 years. Long term, I’d prefer to move to a more reputable pure play VC to work with earlier stage (Series A-D) founders but there are no near-term opportunities to do so given the state of that industry.

I have two different opportunities now to go over to the operating side in tech and move into a senior finance position with direct report to CFO - but both come with significant compensation reductions vs current GE role and I would forfeit all carry in return for reasonable but limited equity upside.

My gut says that while operating experience would be a nice change of pace, that it would be harder to work back into a solid VC seat later on even if the market comes back. And given my position at the GE firm is secure, I could alternatively stick it out to VP promote and likely re-evaluate with better odds to make that move direct to a VC then.

Would appreciate feedback from others in similar seats, and to know how  GE folks are faring in this environment? Also, if anyone is at a VC currently, how would you view a candidate from either position? General perspectives appreciated and it’s possible I am just over thinking this and the answer is stick with the higher current comp outcome until the market opens up again? Thanks all in advance.
