Transitioning to Coverage
I know a lot of this forum is aimed at jr. staff, but I thought I might be able to find some help on here. I was recently laid off (earlier this week) from a mid-west MM bank (think Baird, Blair, HW comp set) as a VP3. I was doing a lot of work on transitioning towards origination/coverage but my main job was still to execute. Long story short, the head of my group decided I wasn't doing enough/moving fast enough on my transition to coverage so they cut me. I don't agree with him, but I also wasn't doing enough self-promoting of my coverage efforts for him to really know what I was doing - my direct MD is pissed about it. There was also basically no training from the firm on how to make the transition. So I'm curious to hear from others that have made the transition from execution to D/MD origination roles. How did you go about it? What were the keys to being successful? What can I do now in my "garden leave" to better position myself to be able to cover in my next role? Any ideas are appreciated and feel free to DM me as well.
