Two HF offers

Hi WallStreetOasis,

I'll have to make a decision soon, so I hope to get some quick opinions. I'm leaning one way but want your take on the reward aspect.

Basically, I'm US target school, math, two year trading analyst in a BB less the top 3. Based in SG. Mostly research but no live PnL. And yes, I seek a move to buy side.

Right now I got two HF offers on the table.

Option 1: ~0.5b HF in SG. Equities. Role is quantitative reserach but definitely fund philosophy is discretionary. Founders from BB and solid team. Assuming their word is true, I could be trading in 6 months.

Option 2: ~1b HF in NY. Quantitative Macro. Role seems to be a generalist though judging from interview, it'll be FO strategy formulation. Team showcases academics, ie a few PhDs, some megafund alumni. Unsure of trading opportunities, very likely I start out as research.

I would take the New York offer in a heart beat if I'm a New Yorker. Option 1 paints a picture I don't mind - BB in SG, HF in SG, I like my home, not so competitive as NY. I see the NY offer as going to the top league to learn from the best.

I just need to know whether is this one of those "suffer now reap the rewards later" by going NY. I'm comfortable where I am.

Can I become big in the HF world if I was always based in SG? I highly doubt so. Will one's resume be exponentially better if there is a New York $1b HF on there?

Sincerely Yours, Willy
