Venting - London

Hey everyone, I’m a masters in finance student at a target uni in London. So far have struck out on everything, now just looking for any job possible whether in FP&A, audit, accounting, anything to be honest. This post is more for venting than anything else, as I cannot talk to anyone about my situation. Just going to keep applying and hoping I’ll find a job, any job. Thanks for listening, it all feels extremely pointless at times

Same here mate. From what I hear it's across the board and seniority levels. What I find especially excruciating is dealing with recruiters' daily BS. There are also some horrific stories out there about candidates finding out that the role had been eliminated after receiving a verbal offer from the hiring manager. But this is the market we have and we have no choice but to keep pushing. If money is not an issue, then have some more patience so you avoid settling for a job that you're going to hate every day.

Exactly. Just keep trying and something will stick. If you ever start to feel like you are losing hope, start looking at all the grads that graduated in late 2008. Alot of them had the same thing happen and they all managed to break in afterwards. Yes, some did have to go to a random corporate or do accounting at PWC, but they still broke in. In the end, just remember that your career is a 30-40 year career and a 1-2 year setback from IB is minor in the grand scheme of things.

All the best

Firstly, network network network. Email literally everyone (small shops in the middle of nowhere, literally anything finance related as any job is better than none)

try and delay your graduation by all means so you can apply for Q1 Off Cycles when they open up.

Dont be afraid to take one of those 6 month internships - when networking just mention that you are open to interning even. Will be beneficial for you

I'm sure if you do the above and literally email every firm you find, something will stick (as an intern or ft). Try and delay your graduation in the meantime (even if you have to miss your exams and then retake them in september so its delayed, find a way)
