At my alma mater, placement across the street was the same as years past (~80%) and summer associate classes at my firm / firms my friends work at are all same size. Think the idea that hiring was down across the board doesn’t actually play out in the numbers but is perception of a very vocal minority.
This. This. This. Almost every firm I know of hired the same amount as normal for this summer even across industries that got hurt very badly by COVID like O&G. With that being said, with the exodus in banking right now, I think hiring may increase for next year.
