Which banking FO division looks best for consulting?
I'm interested in going into strategy consulting FT and am heading into my 3rd year of uni. I wanted to apply for summer internships in banking for the summer after my 3rd year to add a brand name and some finance experience on my CV. Which division in banking would look best for consulting? I'd imagine IBD has the most transferable skills for consulting but sounds impossible to get. And I'd rather do a division like AM, ER or even risk at something like GS than IBD at an unknown bank.
Would appreciate any advice!
The brand of the bank is going to matter more than the specific front office division probably.
If you think IBD is hard to get into then strat consulting (at a non shit firm) is equally as hard.
Thanks for the reply. Yeah I went through the process for both IBD and strat consulting firms for summer internships this year and was able to get interviews at most of the strat firms but none of the BB or elite boutique IBD firms. Think IBD requires more brand name experience and I didn't get any spring weeks so think that made it difficult.
Nope that's not true. Just requires you to demonstrate an interest in finance among other things.
Nothing I wouldn't expect strat to do except the "demonstrate an interest" part is broader
There’s a lot more space at MBB than there is in EBs.
