Nepotism, as well as extremely low educational / technical requirements, which make it quite difficult to differentiate.
Still not as bad as France though.

I thought London groups only hire from a handful of schools?
Because they only have a handful of good schools
I’m thinking there are more students who want to do finance there than in the US
1) Continent is in decline alongside annual deal value/volume, leading to lower headcount needed
2) Banks starting to move IB jobs to Continental Europe. GS has now sector teams based in Paris, FFM, Milan. FFM is now a big hub for BofA
Fewer spots and not necessarily a lot of openings for people with no connections to get in.
