Biomed Major; Neuroscience Research; Equity Research Internship

Greetings Everyone,

I will be graduating in May with an Honors Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Sciences. In the past 2 years, I have become extremely interested in finance, and I hope to amalgamate my strong background in Biotech/Biomed with Finance in order to pursue a career at the intersection of the two, ideally in PE. While the road ahead is undoubtedly daunting, I am anxious to make this transition prior to pursuing my PhD in Neuropharmacology.

I recently acquired a position as a Equity Research Intern at a small company specializing in the Pharma/Biotech sector. To add, I am also involved in my university's investment club where I am a Research Analyst who specializes on the same sector. Prior to pursuing finance, I have completed over a year worth of neuroscience research.

I was hoping those of you with more experience could bestow some insight on how I can ensure that I leverage my unique background in order to make the transition into Finance. While my original plans were to pursue a PhD, I am currently considering forgoing my acceptance to PhD programs in order to pursue my new goal. Having said that, I am very risk averse and I do not intend on closing any doors until a better one is opened.

If anyone could guide me on what the appropriate next steps are I would greatly appreciate it. I am willing to do whatever it takes to get into this industry, even if it means working 100 hour weeks for free for a few months to prove my worth.
