Highly Motivated Sophomore interested in M&A Advisory
Hello everyone,
I am a sophomore at a small private school in the south. I am studying Finance and Economics and am very interested in financial services, especially M&A Advisory.
I have spent a lot of time learning about IB, IM, AM, etc. and have realized that I am most interested in M&A Advisory. I really like the modeling because I like working with numbers, have always played sports so have become accustomed to the team aspect, and enjoy dealing with clients.
I am currently trying to obtain a summer internship to gain relevant experience. I have networked and everyone has been great, but it seems that opportunities for sophomores are few and far between. Even with a GPA over 3.9/4.0 and what I believe to be a strong resume I have only received one phone interview from all of the positions that I have applied for.
If anyone has any advice or suggestions on ways to proceed or a way to change my approach I would love to hear from you guys. It seems that there is an abundance of very experienced people on this site from my brief time on here.
Thanks in advance and happy holidays!
What sort of firms are you targeting? As a sophomore, you should look into non-elite boutiques. I'm sure your school will have alumni at local boutiques, so try those.
