Introduction (finally out of the lurking as a guest phase)
A big hello Monkey Members of the WSO Community!
My first choice of username was unfortunately taken so I had to come up with one on the fly so since it's the summer, I might as well remind people to stay hydrated amidst their busy days. (My first choice of username was BananaBear so who took that?)
I actually first discovered this community in my junior year of high school, since the largest public high school of the US makes poor 15 year olds choose "majors", I went and did some research to choose between Finance and Law and Society. Once I stumbled across this site for finance, I had no idea what the posts were talking about. So, I closed it and used Wikipedia. Long story short, I ended up picking none of those two to spend my last two years of high school in.
Now I am in college, about to be sophomore, and I actually used this site again during my college selection process to see your suggestions of choosing between Baruch or Binghamton. This time, I did choose between one of them and I have to say, getting out of the city is a whole other experience. My first year experience in Bing was very different than what I was used to for my whole life without guardians breathing down my neck. (No, I didn't get smashed or partied nonstop.) The space I had to myself to think about what I wanted to do
and break down when I needed it was very appreciated.
As a sophomore now, I still don't have much of an idea about what path suits me. So even though this is mostly an introduction, I would like to ask those who made it reading all of this a small question- regardless of your experience level- : How did you end up choosing your field? What were some challenges that you faced just starting out?
This community helped me greatly when there were things I needed information from actual professionals so I am very happy to join and hopefully be able to contribute knowledge to you all here whenever I am able to!
Nice to meet you, WSO community!
