New In Miami
This is my first post and I'm not a finance professional, but I'm trying to assess what the landscape is like here in Miami for career opportunities trading softs or foreign exchange, with an eye toward Latin American activity / volume in both sectors. My situation is start-from-scratch, trying to learn whether the opportunities exist here with training programs, entry-level openings, and a chance for a trader position after some years if my performance merits the opportunity. Thanks in advance for any insight.
I lived in Broward and in Miami Beach, there are a few commodity shops, a few IBs, a bunch of representative offices on Brickell. There isn't much of a finance scene there to be frank. Do you speak Spanish? Portuguese?
Thanks for the response. I speak considerable Spanish but would still have to improve it conduct biz with fluency, I'm probably at 60% of fluency. Did you leave for better opportunities elsewhere?
I went to Duke for my MMS, then took an offer outside of FL, if you're open to F500/corp fin or commercial banking there are more options.
Broward here. Florida isn't that great for finance. If you speak Spanish a lot more doors are open to you.
A lot of firms want Portuguese in addition.
Second this. Working for a PE shop in Miami at the moment, Spanish and Portuguese are a must for most firms. As previously mentioned it really isn't great for finance down here.
