New Member considering joining a small RIA

Hello, I come from a much different background than most. I lived overseas from 24-31. Moved back home and got a job with a captive insurance/BD. I was given a small book of p&c insurance ($400,000) making 7% on that with no assets. Over a 7 year period I went from knowing nothing to getting the 7 and 65 along with CFP and grew assets to $20 million. I'm strongly considering joining a small local RIA and trying to figure out how to transition since I have a non-compete. Also looking for thoughts on buying into the RIA.
