New to the forum - looking for a career change

Hi all,

I joined the forum yesterday and already it has been very helpful. I found my way here as I am looking for a career change; I have a bit of an up hill battle as I do not come from a target school and I did not study finance. I currently work in financial services (insurance) where I work with fortune 500 companies assessing and placing their risk, though this is not direct experience I believe it has provided me with crossover skills. I will be taking classes in advanced excel, VBA and financial modelling to bring the core skills up to speed.

I am currently looking for opportunities in sales and trading and physical commodity firms, but am open to any position that might fit my current skill level and experience. My first hurdle, and the biggest, will be getting in the door.

Has anyone been in a similar position as myself? It certainly is a daunting task to take on and there is a lot of competition, and while I am comfortable at my job and could certainly stay in the industry I would kick myself for never trying and not challenging myself.

Any advice on courses or classes that may beneficial to getting my foot in the door would be appreciated.

Thanks,
