New to WSO..Hello everyone

Hello all,

I am a junior at UAB pursuing a Bachelor's degree in both Accounting and Finance. I look forward to the advice and wisdom shared by all in this community and hopefully I will be better prepared when the time comes to transition into the finance world. I am dual majoring to meet the education requirements to sit for the CPA exam (advisor says it is a great certification for either field) but I really hope to go into investment banking or financial analysis.

Any advice, tips or added instruction would be greatly appreciated!

Look through your OCR to see if there are any internship postings. Also if I understood the acronym for your school correctly you're at a non-target for IB so you'll have to network a lot. Reach out and email people that work at jobs you're interested in. Say "I'm interested in this type of work can we have a quick phonecall/grab coffee etc." Talk to them and try pass your resume along.

As for school - get into some Finance/Accounting related organization. As a junior I assume you don't have any job experience yet so this is the most beneficial way to fill your resume. The small/young ones can be really good because you can actually get a head position/more responsibility in them. They'll likely also teach you some useful skills. In all honesty securing job experience is probably more important than grades right now in my opinion.

Read through wallstreetoasis to get advice on how to get through as a non-target. There are a lot of threads out there, sort the forums by popular and start reading.
