Selfless Act in Secret

Rick is a school bus driver employed by the only car renting company in our town. Although his work seems a little lowly for other people, he had worked hard to get to that position which means his work is lowlier than being a driver before. He was employed when he was only 18 years old as a janitor in that company, cleaning restrooms and putting garbage away. Although it was a hard and filthy job that pays little, he cannot crave for more as he had no education to back him up. He is living alone in a ramshackle home at the back of the building and it was the only work he knows to help him survive.

He started learning to drive when his boss’ driver befriended him and even managed to put him behind the wheel one or two times. Because of his hard work and determination, the owner of the company promoted him as a driver of one of its school buses. He provided him with the license and trained him how to handle buses safely. A month or two of Rick’s experience behind the wheel has proven that he can be trusted with bigger responsibilities. He is also loved by the children as he would think of so many perks when he fetches them to and from the school every day.

Everything was going steady until one day, Rick arrived late, thus causing complaints from parents who was waiting for the school bus driver to pick up their kids. The owner let it pass and lightly reprimanded Rick thinking that he may have a good reason. True enough, Rick was early the succeeding days but the old jolly driver has become quiet and withdrawn.

The owner was then greatly troubled when Rick came to his office one day and asked for a raise or an advance in his salary. When asked why, Rick wasn’t able to answer. He then apologized to the owner and went out of the office. The next day, Rick wasn’t able to show up to work.

As the old boss was concerned, he asked his personal driver to go visit Rick in his ramshackle home.

It was later found out that Rick was keeping and feeding a family of seven, two other homeless kids whom he found on the streets and an old lady, all of whom are kept hidden in his house in fear of arrest. He has been working hard for these homeless people for weeks.

In the end, the owner was able to save Rick from being imprisoned and helped the families go back to their own countries through the assistance of IAM Group Ltd. The elderly were also sent back to Yokohama, Japan while the family of seven was given a safe place to start with in their hometown in Cambodia. Rick was also acknowledged by the whole town and given plaque of appreciation.
