Struggling to find job in Toronto after completing undergrad abroad.

Hi Everyone,

To get to the point I've been struggling to find a job in Toronto after completing my degree abroad in Australia. Some background information:

  • Worked in nightlife after high school before deciding to go to post-secondary early 20s.
  • Completed a college diploma then got accepted to bridging in Australia to earn degree.
  • During degree completed two non-industry internships, one in Australia and another in South Africa.
  • Also worked on collaborative projects in Hong Kong, China and did an exchange in Italy for a month. This combined with the 50+ plus other countries I've visited has given me some good international exposure and has expanded my network.

Wasn't expecting to move back to Toronto but some things in life just inevitably happen and I returned in April of this year. Having missed the on campus recruitment and the general recruitment cycle I have been applying to no avail and seem somewhat stuck. I'm interested in Corporate/Commercial banking as well as Private Banking/Wealth.

Any tips on how to break into a role at a major bank or boutique would be appreciated!

Was in a similar position to you in terms of recruiting. Just didn’t apply to anything during my final year and regretted it. I spent all summer networking and had two job offers in Toronto at the end of summer. Networking is key especially off cycle recruiting. You will be able to find out if something will be coming up etc.
