Thrilled to be here!! [Andy McGavern from San Francisco, CA, USA]

Hey Wall Street Oasis! I'm Andy πŸ‘‹, soon to be MBA student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I also have a Master of Public Policy from UMass. I've spent my early career in government, tech, and nonprofits, but I'm pumped to pivot into finance after my most recent stint at TPG Capital πŸ’Έ.

I've done some interesting things during my career, and I think I'm going to love being on Wall Street.

I supported four executives at fintech startup Blend Labs while project managing their concurrent $455M acquisition AND $4B IPO led by Goldman Sachs. So I'm definitely used to 17-hour workdays, hah!

I also served as the right hand to the CEO of digital mapping startup Mapbox. I traveled with him to Japan to meet SoftBank's CEO and help close a $300M Series C raise, and was by his side most hours of the day.

And I spent 3 years as a White House Official under Obama working in finance, ops, and political hiring. I also oversaw the 2017 presidential transition as Associate Director of the prestigious White House Fellows Program. I also love nonprofits and have interned at the Clinton Global Initiative, volunteered at social services agencies, and was a Fellow for Governor Deval Patrick.

Now I'm excited to layer on financial modeling, valuation, analytics skills, etc. through my MBA program and the courses here at WSO. My goal is to bring analytical horsepower plus empathy and a range of soft skills to create psychologically safe, high-performing cultures within finance.

Looking forward to connecting and learning from all of you! Please feel free to say hi. I'd love to help any of you, though you might have a leg up on me :).

Cheers,

Andy

Thanks :) it's okay. Sort of miss government, nonprofits, helping people. Might go back there, or get an MSW and start a therapy practice.
