Can one break into PE/HF/MBB with a masters/PhD in history?

Ever since one of my high school teachers (who I'm forever grateful for) showed me the beauty of history, I've loved the subject. I relish the analytical skills that reading and discussing history has honed in me. Now, I'm at a crossroads -- should I go to a prestigious university (T10) and receive a PhD in history? And if so, could I break into PE/HF/MBB assuming I stay sharp with interviews? I'm not pursuing history for the sake of breaking into finance -- in fact, I have a direct path into it right now in my target undergrad -- but I'm rather pursuing it out of genuine passion, in spite of my career. I'm curious about how recruiters would view an applicant with a history PhD. Would the novelty of both history and the PhD actually impress recruiters, or would it completely seal off any career in finance? Thanks.
