Do banks give you laptops?
Incoming SA (London) and my current laptop is incredibly slow so looking to get a new one. I'm wondering if banks typically give you work laptops and if so I'll be reluctant to spend a lot of money on a high end laptop now if it'll only be used for a year and a half of university. Thanks.
You will be given a work laptop.
It's helpful if you say what bank... Although, I don't know of any bank that does, at least not BB banks.
PJT/CVP/EVR type bank. So if they don't it's worth me getting a quality one now?
No they will definitely give you a laptop, only ever heard of BB's not giving them to interns and even then you have to use a remote desktop software at all times.
I don't know about EBs if they give laptops or not. The poster above seems to know that they do, so then probably not worth getting a laptop. BBs in London don't give them.
If any doubt, reach out to your recruiter. They will be more than happy to advise.
I don’t know if this is just London but worked at BB and EB and both give laptops to interns in the US. I don’t know any bank that didn’t give laptops.
Worked at two BBs and they did not give laptops to anyone. You could check one out from the tech center if you needed to borrow one for some reason, but you couldn't keep it forever.
You can get a very solid laptop for $700 (I bought one carefully ~7 years ago in college and still use it to work) so I would just spend the money
Thanks. Any laptop recommendations? From browsing wso seems like most people like lenovo thinkpads
Those are great but I just didn't want to spend that much money. Prioritize an i7 or i9 chip and solid RAM (at least 16GB, ideally 32).
I have an older Samsung galaxy book and it still runs great, looks like they have come up in price but you can get the older galaxy book 2 for not too much. Dell Inspiron is good too, HP is fine. IMO once you meet those above specs it's mostly the same
Even if the bank doesn't give you a laptop, you'll be working off a remote desktop, so it doesn't really matter how fast your actual laptop is.
Erm no. My experience is that the remote desktop runs slower if the laptop is slower.
No and we also had to make our own business cards. A couple of vacation days, a good pair of scissors and good quality paper helps and you should be good. Make sure it's thick enough so the cards won't be too flimsy.
