Flat Share - London

Hi everyone,

I will commence my FT employment at a BB in London in February. Currently looking for a place to live within a walking distance from tube station (preferably in Central London, but also other options are completely fine). I was wondering if anyone here is seeking a roommate. I would also be interested in starting a new share. Please PM me if interested :)

Thanks!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights and recommendations for flat sharing in London:

Recommended Areas:

  • East London: Offers the best value for money compared to West London and Angel/Islington.
    • Wapping
    • Limehouse
    • Shoreditch (if you work in the city)
    • Canning Town
    • Areas around Canary Wharf / Isle of Dogs

Rent and Living Arrangements:

  • Flatshare: Generally more economical. Studios can be quite expensive, often around £1.2K+ for subpar quality.
  • New Builds in East London: Rent ranges from £850 - £1000 plus tax and bills. You can usually find a two-bed, two-bath flat within this range.
  • Flatshare Budget: If you earn around £50k, flatsharing at approximately £1k per month is advisable to maintain a decent budget for other expenses.

Additional Tips:

  • Transport Links: East London has better transport links (DLR, all-day buses) compared to South of the river areas like Bermondsey and Canada Water.
  • Flatmate Preferences: The more flatmates you have, the cheaper it will be. However, personal preference on the number of flatmates varies.

Finding Roommates:

  • WSO Threads: There are several threads where users are looking for roommates. For example:
    • 2019 FT Roommate Thread: Users share their preferences and contact details for potential roommates.
    • 2022 Analyst Housing London: Analysts moving to London for a July 2022 start are looking for housing/flatmates.

Feel free to PM users on these threads if you're interested in starting a new share or finding a roommate. Good luck with your search and your new role at the BB in London!
