London - Benefits of being a freemason in London?

I’m curious about the influence of being a Freemason in London. Do they have any significant impact on industries like investment banking, hedge funds, or real estate? Are there any career advancement benefits associated with joining the Freemasons in London?

Hi,

I didn't want to respond on this because I don't have much conviction in my answer. But I don't think so.

Maybe my naivety reveals something about my background, but I've been 10+ years in this industry and never heard of freemasons. I googled it just now and it sounds a bit peculiar. Maybe there's a whole world I'm oblivious to, but aside from maybe a few useful connections, I don't think this has any influence on your career. We're in a world where even if I recommend a candidate they still need to go through individual application, online testing, etc., like everyone else does.

A close family member is a high-ranking mason in my home country. In a nutshell, it's a social club for upper middle-class men. Lots of lawyers, doctors, artists and so on. Wouldn't say the lodge has any "significant impact" on much of anything, but it's definitely useful for general networking purposes. Can't imagine a mason banker wouldn't help out a fellow mason.

To infinity... and beyond!
