London Flatshare
I’m about to start a grad position at a bank in the city and need a place for September onwards. What are good areas to live in? I quite like Camden as I’ve been living there for uni but can I trust the northern line lol? I’ve heard mixed opinions on Whitechaped, Hoxton, etc.
Anyone want to buddy-up for a flatshare in september?
I like Swiss Cottage all the way down to Marylebone. no dealing with the northern line.
if you’re working near the city or Canary wharf instead of Mayfair then yeah I’d choose Camden.
If you're going to be doing IB, so that you'll be there until late in the evening and can expense cars to the firm, I'd consider South Kensington/ Fulham. The District Line is now Air Conditioned and you can commute to Bank from South Kensington in ~15 minutes, or Parsons Green in ~25. And you can just take cars home in the evening (should be ~20 minutes with no traffic).
Nice areas to live in and enjoy your weekends in.
Can probably split a nice two-bed flat for £1,200-1,400 each
can you expense cars all the way to Woking and other commuter cities ?
yh, can expense to wherever you want
that’s a pretty crazy number for rent. how do you guys save anything ?
I'm only an intern, but I think saving salary is not a done thing. A general principle I think people go by is spend salary (and expense whatever you can), save bonus.
Also, consumption smoothing? You'll regret cheaping out a few hundred hundred pounds a month as an analyst on rent just to have a tiny bit more when you're senior already with bucketloads of money.
That's my take at least.
I was in st johns wood and its lovely. Also lived in bethnal green (shithole) Angel (less of a shithole) Queensway (quite nice) West Hampstead (v nice) Stratford (awesome place to live) and Canary Wharf (pretty nice but novelty wears off quick)
Lines to avoid are northern, victoria and central - these are horrible. I normally go for jubilee where possible or any of the ac lines)
Why avoid these lines? I've heard great things about Victoria line actually - it comes every minute and is fast.
What's wrong with northern line in particular?
