London - where to live?
Starting FT at a BB in Canary Wharf. What are the best places to live at that are not CW itself (heard it’s quite boring to live there). Should still be reasonably close though.

Live in CW, work in the City - it's not as bad to live in as you think. Really nice, practically brand new flats that are pretty affordable to rent on an IB salary (especially at the moment), more to do in terms of shopping, restaurants etc and pretty well connected to central London with the jubilee line and dlr. Will say if you're working in CW it may feel a bit like you never leave the office however.
Will shortly start a new job in the city and lived in CW so far: what's your experience when it comes to commuting in the morning? Is it manageable or are you late frequently?
The issue is, if you don’t commute to be there at 9am, you risk having to start early morning urgent work and only being able to commute at like 1pm (which is what I do every day).
So question is more are you ready to cut on already limited sleep to commute?
Do not live in CW. It’s boring.
would consider Bermondsey and London Bridge given Jubilee line and nice location
Used to live in E14 - I would say don't do it if you want any form of social life. there isn't much going on there, and the other neighborhoods aren't great (tower hamlets, anyone?).
Only live there if you want to be in walking distance to the office, and if you really want to see your office day and night.
Otherwise there are decent places in London where you can estimate good commute times.
Any advice for those who will be working in Mayfair?
You could live around Hyde / Green Park or north of Mayfair, tbh with current rent levels Soho could be an option too. Or anywhere central like Bermondsey/London bridge.
If that’s your thing maybe also Notting Hill, kensington etc
Clapham, Tower bridge, St John's woods, maybe wapping/Shoreditch if you want to be north of the river.

Only reason you'd ever go south of CW is for cheap booze from the Asda haha (just remember to have your jabs before going...)

Make sure it's above the Thames - South London is not an option.
Westminster and Barbican could also be good options.

That seems quite cheap compared to what I've seen on rightmove, are you house-sharing?
Including council tax and charges, Internet etc., probably 1,000 - 1,200 p.p. on average for a 3-people flatshare. Less than 1,000 all included you would either have to be very lucky or compromise on space or area
Might be a bit lower now though

yeh definitely. very clockwork orangesque too.
Hmm it’s probably not the most lively area (compared to the following places), but rather a nice and quiet area surrounded by all the main London sites (the city, shoreditch, Islington, Covent, etc.). There’s Barbican center too which is nice for art.
Lively music scene, bars, pubs and restaurants if some places a bit try hard with a mixed crowd of 20s and 30s: Shoreditch and Hoxton. Good time commute with the overground (air conditioned as a bonus) and change at Canada Water.
Good pubs and restaurants, more of an older crowd, possibly walking to work in the summer, more family vibe: Bermondsey / London Bridge / Borough
Soulless, chain restaurants, shopping centres, no vibe, easy commute, cheaper and modern apartments: Stratford / Canary Wharf
Grad central so super young crowd, posh hotties and rugby boys everywhere, great nightlife, basically student town for professionals, long commute on the disgusting northern line: Clapham / Balham
Like Clapham but more vibey, less twats, better music scene: Brixton.
If you don’t like any of the nightlife etc Wapping is really nice and probably walking distance but not much going on.

Aside from Tower Bridge and CW - are there any areas with an abundance of more modern apartment buildings?
Doesn't have to be over-the-top fancy but I've come to appreciate places with good facilities (gym, pool).
More importantly, I can't stand old carpets anymore: particularly after working from home for a prolonged period ...
So far, I've only found them in TB and CW ...
