Toastmasters?
I know investment banking requires very good oral and written communication skills. I'm part of an organization known as Toastmasters. Its essentially a club that meets once every week and members engage in a variety of speaking activities. Its fun and you can directly and indirectly improve speaking ability, especially in front of a small crowd.
I'm wondering if anyone here is a Toastmaster, and if it really stuck out on your resume. It is an international organization and its been around since 1924. So, no its not just something local. Even if you never heard of it, I suggest you guys try it out.
Should I join a toastmaster club? (Originally Posted: 08/11/2015)
How much does it help? Or are there better opportunities to improve?
Yes, you will never truly know if it will help you unless you actually try it out first. If you think it is useless after a few meetings then move on to the next thing. You're going to learn something new either way.
Yes, unless the time you put into it will detract from something more important.
Also keep in mind that the culture and quality of different clubs can vary dramatically. Visit two or three before you commit to joining.
I was also thinking the same. For what reason are you joining?

Have any of you guys ever taken part in toastmasters? How is it? Is it known on the street?
