Aetna & Humana Fighting to Defend It's Merger

The proposed merger between Aetna and Humana for $34 billion is facing pushback from the Justice Department. Anthem also proposed a deal for $48 billion to acquire Cigna.

The competition issues presented by the Aetna-Humana deal differ from the Anthem-Cigna transaction. With Anthem and Cigna, antitrust officials raised worries about the effects on the market for administering the health benefits of national employers, among other areas.

Seeing how many deals have fallen apart earlier this year (i.e. Stales-Office Depot, Pfizer-Allergen, Halliburton-Baker Hughes, etc.) do you expect this deal or the Anthem Cigna deal to fall through?

I think Aetna and Humana actually have a chance because they can sell off assets, not sure about Anthem and Cigna.

Also, how do you see Obamacare playing into what is going on with these merger talks, do you think these companies have been hurting and are now looking to catch a breath?
