And the Oscar Goes to....

Anybody heard of Craig Forgrave? He runs a site called Marketbob and the whole premise behind it is his theory that how movies do in the box office each week can predict the outcome of the stock market. Yes, that’s right. If you believe Forgrave, Harry Potter and Big Mama have a direct impact on whether next week will be bearish or bullish.

Ok, I admit, I get a kick out of the site. There are interactive sections, newsletters and lots of pretty charts and graphs, and yes, it’s kind of an interesting concept. But the odds really aren’t that great for Mr. Forgrave. Last year his box office predictions were right 35 out of 52 weeks. In other words, about two thirds of the time. Seriously, basing my forecast on whether or not my neighbors Chihuahua will squat or lift his leg to take a piss would probably yield similar results.

But, either way, if you haven’t seen it you may get a kick out of it so check it out. Sure beats reading CNBC these days.
