Can someone impart knowledge on the audit readiness field?

I wouldn't say there is such a field. Audit readiness sounds to me like pulling a bunch of documentation in response to audit requests. So, admin work.
It's mostly done in a federal government setting; from looking at jobs, most deal with internal control documentation, risk assessments, testing and review.
Anyone else?
