Finance to tech-> Starting from Investment Consulting vs. Private Banking
Hi there, I am currently looking at options in Investment Consulting (think Russel, Cambridge Associates, Mercer) and PB (Merrill) and think that, at some point in the future, would be interested in transitioning to tech (sales, business development, partnerships). If I were to stay in finance long term, I believe Investment Consulting would yield better exit opps in an area I am interested in such as fundraising, private placement, IR, whereas PB might not provide that much mobility.
However, if I were to transition to finance, the name brand of a bank like Merrill Lynch might have more cache than an investment consulting firm which, while respected within finance, might have less recognition in tech because recruiters may simply be unfamiliar with it.
Open to any thoughts and suggestions, thanks!
Is investment banking in a tech/M&A out of the question? I used to be in PB, and have a ton of friends in IC, and I can't think of an easy transition since the clients and work are very different compared to tech. Also, what do you want? Sales and biz dev are very different fields.
