Financial Analyst vs Investment Performance Analyst - which is better job

I'm thinking about a career change. I am looking for a job with a good work life balance, stable with decent career progression over time, and will be around until I retire. I don't really care if it's boring. I am 28, turning 29, and unfortunately can't do a job that will take a lot of my time as I want to focus on other things in life. It's too late for me to be an equity analyst or anything like that - altho if I could do things again, I would have loved to be an investment analyst.

I have some experience in performance reporting (worked for a couple years in investment consulting) but I never understood the progression for performance analysts. I am thinking about going back to doing that BUT at an Asset Management firm. Or, I am thinking about starting over as a Financial Analyst. I have 2 levels of the CFA exam passed and am working on the third.

Which job is more stable, will have more exit opportunities, and will end up with higher pay at the end? I want to come in every day, do a good job, and then leave. I want it to be stable and so I can move on to the next step of my life.

Thanks!
