Sing for Cash - Desperation at its Finest

People are truly getting desperate in this economy. Now they're actually entering contests and belting out show tunes to get ahead. It's either a sign of the times or just a prime example that people will do absolutely anything for money.

It's called Careereoki, and it's the latest craze in the unemployment world. It's basically a sing-for-money type deal, but what it really boils down to is a classic check-your-pride-and-every-ounce-of-dignity-at-the-door type situation. In the latest competition, 60 applicants sent in tapes, some of them singing in their bathrobes (apparently class was not a requirement) from which five lucky finalists will get to have their videos broadcast over the internet for the entire world to see and vote for the most qualified jackass.

The grand prize in the most recent contest is valued at $8,000 and includes a career training scholarship, personal and resume makeovers and a $100 gas card. The two first-place winners will also receive tuition help, resume makeovers and $50 gas cards. Totally worth making a complete ass of yourself on tape.

So, keep your eyes open for the next Careereoki contest coming your way. In the meantime, you'd better brush up on your Grease lyrics and go buy a new bathrobe.
