Thoughts on Fund opinions at HL?

I got my interview for the group soon for SA'27. It's a very niche career in valuation advisory, and there isn't much information online about it. I was wondering if anyone could share there opinions on the group. Ex. what is the comp like, exit opps, culture, and hours etc.

Thank you!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, Houlihan Lokey's valuation advisory group is often regarded as a strong player in the niche space of valuation services. Here’s a breakdown of the key aspects you’re asking about:

  1. Compensation: While specific figures for HL's valuation advisory group aren't detailed in the context, HL is known for offering competitive compensation, especially for its restructuring and valuation groups. However, it may not match the pay levels of traditional investment banking roles.

  2. Exit Opportunities: Valuation advisory is a specialized field, so exit opportunities often align with roles in corporate finance, private equity, or internal valuation teams at corporations. It’s less common to see direct exits to traditional IB or high-profile PE roles compared to M&A or RX groups.

  3. Culture: HL is known for having a collaborative and professional culture, though it can vary by office and group. The valuation advisory team is typically described as having a more predictable work environment compared to other IB divisions.

  4. Hours: Hours in valuation advisory are generally better than in M&A or RX. While still demanding, they are often more manageable, with fewer late nights and weekend work.

If you're preparing for the interview, focus on technical skills, such as financial modeling and valuation techniques, as well as your ability to articulate why you're interested in this niche field. Good luck with your SA'27 interview!
