This is a stupid idea and shows no respect for the heritage of the game.
Firstly, no one would care nearly this much if it wasn't the 27th out - if it'd been a blown call on the first out of a one-hitter, would the media make such a stink? They're functionally the same.
Secondly, do you really imagine this is the first time an umpire has blown a call? No. But baseball has been played forever with blown calls. When it affects the outcome of a game, that's understandable - I don't think it should be that way, as I like a little chance in my sports, but at least then both teams benefit. Here, Galarraga would get a perfect game, but what about pitchers from before we had replay? They never had the chance.
Mistakes happen; players make them, and refs make them. Without mistakes, what'd be the point of playing the games?

You are right that this would not have been such a big deal if it was a no-hitter ect. But when in history of baseball has another pitcher had the 27th out of a perfect game stolen from him-----your replay argument does no hold up.
Exactly the point - baseball has been played since the 1700's. MLB has been played since 1869. Do you really imagine there's never been another blown call on the 27th out of a perfect game before? No; there's just never been one on video before.

There's already been two perfect games this season, three in the last year. In the absence of steroids, we need something to keep these feats rare.
This whole "respect the heritage of the game" argument is fcking bullshit. The game has changed and there is no reason why rules cannot or should not change accordingly. For the love of the "game" is no longer about the love of the game as all of these sports have become nothing more than robust business models.
To err is human and mistakes are an important part of the game. I am against replay for blown calls such as this one but not because of the heritage or purity of the game, which has been forever tarnished anyway.
