What a Difference a Year Makes

I was reading earlier today how this time last year the Dow reached a record high, and here we are today at the end of its worst week ever, trying to pick up the pieces and wondering what the future holds. Today’s headlines are reporting the Dow closing “down only 128 to 8,451.19” as if that’s fantastic news.

No, I’m not naïve, nor am unfamiliar with the volatility of the market, but I don’t think there’s anyone on Wall Street, or anywhere for that matter, that isn’t ready to get off this rollercoaster ride, lose their lunch in a nearby trashcan and go home for a nap, in the hopes that when they wake up everything will be back to where it should be.

We’re obviously witnessing how much can change in just 12 months, but where will we be a year from now? Will that be enough time to recover? And will it get worse before it gets better? Anybody care to venture a guess as to how long it will be before we see the light at the end of this shithole, I mean tunnel? Hurry…..while I still have $12 in my 401K…..

Ya... This is getting a bit of a bother. Before, it used to be that the biggest news warranted a post with pics to go on the front page (ex. MER acquisition by BoA, LEH bankruptcy, BSC acquisition by JPM), but, today, it seems everybody is posting a pic to go on the front page with some news that should just be left in the forum. Another loss of quality in WSO, IMO. Hopefully, it doesn't bother other as much as it does me. :)

hey guys, it's not anything with a picture. Affluenza and Edmundo Braverman are hired writers and I have a few other users writing for hire but much less frequently. I thought that was obvious given that all of their posts have been on the home page for weeks but maybe not?

Anyway, I hired them so that they could touch on current financial news and keep WSO updated on the latest shit to hit the fan. With all of the initiatives and new theme in the works, I have very little time to search through the forums for front-page worthy material and with all the news going on now, this ensures that WSO stays somewhat up to date until we can hire (and afford) more writers. Affluenza's posts are less serious in nature and Edmundo Braverman I think has provided some very insightful commentary during this mess. Gnome, I was surprised to hear that you think it was a loss of quality to WSO. Do you really think it would be better if there were no updates on the homepage? I think overall think both writers have done a great job so far.

Do others have a strong opinion here?

Thanks, Patrick
