What is fuelling the deal activity in the retail space?
Monkeys, there seem to be a lot of high ticket transactions happening in the retail sector. Between Amazon's purchase of Whole foods ($15 Bn.) , Staples buyout by Sycamore Partners ( $7 Bn.) or even Walgreen's bid to buy half of Rite Aid's stores ($6 Bn.), billions of dollars are being poured into these transactions.
On the other hand, 9 retailers have filed for bankruptcy in the first quarter of 2017. Is it optimism or distress driving the consolidation that is happening? Do we look at as an online + offline expansion or a game for real estate? Curious to know the community's thoughts.
