2025 On-Cycle Private Equity Recruiting as a Second-Year Analyst

Does anyone actually do this? It seems like... almost kind of embarrassing to reach out to a headhunter with this. And it sets your career back a year. My understanding was that some PEs would be filling some 2024 associate slots this fall, but if I'm wrong, this might be an alternative. Any thoughts?

Oncycle will only be for 2025 slots. It’s not embarrassing by any means to do a third year in banking, just a question of whether you’d be willing to. A year is not a lot in the grand scheme of things, and I would say most people in PE did not come straight from a 2 year in banking background. In terms of 2024 spots, there are definitely some left and you should be in conversation with headhunters to know what your options are. Since the market is slow, I would expect fewer immediate hire and offcycle roles than prior years. If you have dream firms that are full for 2024, probably a good idea to do 2025 oncycle for them. But if you’re super open minded, just talk to headhunters and see what 2024 is looking like

Not OP but can I PM, wanted to get your opinion on doing oncycle as a 2nd year

I might do my

On cycle as A 2nd year, depending on if I feel

Prepped soon enough

Same. I don’t want to do a third year but it seems like my options are limited.
