Anyone heard of Willowridge Partners?

I have done a deep dive on them here on WSO, but haven’t found anything. It seems like interesting work in PE secondaries in the LMM space but would love some insight here. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

  1. Their CEO is a really great guy - intermediaries love him, other secondary firms love him, sellers love him. He's well respected in the industry.
  1. The firm is a pioneer in the space. They launched a secondary fund in 1995 - this was one of the first out there by a mile.
  1. They are dedicated to doing very small deals and a lot of them - like cheques of 1-10m per deal. They focus solely on buying LPs stakes. The bad news is that a lot of secondary funds are becoming a bit more agile by also doing GP-leds.
  1. Their fund sizes are quite small, but it matches the deal sizes they go after - Amberbrook VIII is only $650m.
  1. One of their partners, who has been there for a long time, is a total pain in the a**. Nightmare to work with. They recently hired another guy that also isn't the best to deal with. Their juniors don't get paid that great and it's pretty much impossible to make Director or Partner through promotion.
  1. They now have a lot of competition from the likes of Kline Hill, Schroders, Mill Reef, Committed Advisors, Newbury doing small deals.

If you're getting an associate role there I would do it for 2 years and then try and go elsewhere as I candidly don't think they're going to have the strength to raise bigger funds (or more funds after Amberbrook VIII). Something to look out for is the non-compete. If they have one and refuse to remove it then I'd pass.

Thank you, I really appreciate the help! When you say the analysts don't get paid that great, do you mean sub $100k or low compared to a different PE shop or IB Associate? Interesting to hear the CEO is well respected and it sound like an intriguing spot.
