Apply for Large-cap PE Analyst positions whilst working as an analyst 1 in IB?
1) If you apply for entry-level programs (for PE analyst). How likely is it that your bank will find out? 2) Do these PE shops, e.g. BX, hire folks as entry-level analysts despite not coming straight from Uni? (Aware the I will miss out in 1 year of career progression) Just for context; I want to do Large-cap PE, is currently working full time in IB at a good enough shop that I might be able to recruit for Large-cap associate positions in ~2 years. Although, I’m not at GS/MS, not a diversity candidate, don’t coming from a target school etc. and hence I believe my changes for Large-cap will be limited, which is why I am looking into the opportunities described above. Also, this is for London.

Additional Insights: - Career Progression and Recruitment: - If you aim to recruit for large-cap associate positions in about two years, your current experience in IB will be valuable. While not being at GS/MS or coming from a target school might limit your chances slightly, it is not a deal-breaker. Networking, strong performance, and demonstrating your skills can help bridge this gap. - Large-cap PE firms often value the analytical and deal experience gained in IB. Therefore, focusing on excelling in your current role and building a strong network can enhance your chances of transitioning to a large-cap PE role in the future.
Contextual Considerations: - Location: - Since you are looking into opportunities in London, it's important to note that the recruitment dynamics might differ slightly from other regions. London has a competitive PE market, and networking within the local finance community can be particularly beneficial.
In summary, while applying for entry-level PE analyst positions from an IB role is possible, it requires careful consideration and strategic planning. Your current IB experience will be valuable for future large-cap PE associate roles, and focusing on excelling in your current position while networking can enhance your chances.
