Blackstone pymetrics video interview

Hi all. I applied a month and a half ago for an off-cycle internship at BX (generic PE internship) in London. I got an automated pymetrics game invitation and haven't heard anything since. Applied again for another off-cycle in the credit & insurance team. After 10 days of the automated pymetrics game email, I got an invitation for a pre-recorded interview. I'm confused which internship this is for. I'm guessing it's the second internship because it's closer to my experience but how do I make sure?

Also, what does this mean? Has my application been reviewed by an actual human or was this also automated? Anyone has any insights on the questions & methodology?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:

  1. Determining Which Internship the Interview is For:

    • Since you received the pre-recorded interview invitation 10 days after applying for the second internship (credit & insurance team), it is likely tied to that application. However, to confirm, you can check the email invitation for any specific details or reach out to the HR/recruitment contact listed in the email for clarification.
  2. Human vs. Automated Review:

    • The initial stages of the process, including the pymetrics games, are often automated. Pymetrics uses AI to assess cognitive and emotional traits, creating a profile to match candidates with the firm's ideal traits. However, receiving an invitation for a pre-recorded interview suggests that your application has likely passed the automated screening and may have been reviewed by a recruiter or hiring manager.
  3. Insights on Questions & Methodology:

    • Pre-recorded interviews typically include behavioral questions. For example, J.P. Morgan's pre-recorded interviews often ask about teamwork, decision-making, and motivations (e.g., "Why JPM/IB?"). You may encounter similar themes for Blackstone, such as:
      • Why are you interested in private equity or Blackstone specifically?
      • Describe a time you worked in a team or faced a challenge.
      • How do you approach decision-making under pressure?
    • You usually get a set amount of time to prepare and record your answers, with multiple attempts allowed for each question.
  4. Preparation Tips:

    • Treat the interview as you would any other behavioral interview. Focus on structuring your answers using frameworks like STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result).
    • Research Blackstone's culture, values, and recent deals to tailor your responses.
    • Practice recording yourself to ensure clear and concise delivery.

If you're still unsure about the process or need further clarification, reaching out to the recruitment team is a good step. Good luck!

Name one strength you have and how you’ll use it at BX, name one hobby you enjoy, name an investment you would make and why, mention 3 advantages and risks of this investment. I got 1 attempt per question but other ppl get 2. 3 minutes to prep, 1 minute to answer. I botched all questions so brutally because the 1 minute mark was just not enough lol. Make sure you prepare with a timer before you take it
