BX internal mobility

Hey all,

Ignore my title - starting next month in middle office at BX. Was wondering if anyone has insights into how feasible it is to make it to front office there.

For context, I saw a few people working up from admin positions to front office.

Thanks!

BX is one of, if not the, the worst MFs for internal mobility.

Even going from top PE group to a different PE group, or switching locations, is looked down upon. I'd say just about no shot to "trade up" as much as you are looking to. Even at the most transfer-friendly fund, MO skillset does not really translate to PE skillset.

You may be able to make it into PE, but you will need to downgrade funds and potentially take a step or two into different roles on the way.

also not sure if you are joking with the admin -> FO thing but this does not happen at any fund except maybe a one-off at a LMM. I've seen admins get promoted to associate as a token of appreciation basically, but they are very much still admins and their work/pay reflects it

Not likely - again, skillset doesn't match

If by "again" you mean you have previous, non-internship IB experience, you can go back. But if you have no ib experience or just an internship I'd say would be challenging and you're better off doing something like corp banking, valuation - even MO (ideally risk) at a bank and at least the internal transfer is easier there
