Career move - M&A Analyst - PE / HF?

Unsure what to do next:

> I'm a 3rd-year M&A analyst at a London BB, told I’d likely be getting a promotion in ~9 months, but growing tired of the long hours. I had planned on moving into PE, but am now considering hedge funds or S&T given the improved hours. I’ve completed the CFAs and have always been analytical but it’s been 3 years since I’ve had to use that information. Will I be starting at the very bottom again to only tire of the work in another 2 years?

Can someone give me any advice or insight into the different roles.
