CDD strategy consultant interested in PE

Hi guys,

I'm currently 4 years out of UG at a boutique consulting firm where my main role is doing CDD work for PE deals.

I know PE Associates make significantly more than I do now, and was thinking about making a career jump to a PE shop later down the line.

My questions are:

1) is it possible to make this jump? Not planning on doing MBA, even though that is probably the typical path

2) I have significant experience in market sizing/research/comp landscape, which I know is part of the PE associate role, what else do I need to work on to put myself in a better position?

3) what would the typical compensation be for a PE associate in a LCOL city? (Think Houston/Charlotte/Dallas/ATL)

4) any other stories or advice are sincerely appreciated!

Thank you guys so much in advance for the advice!
