COOKED My IB/PE Chances?
I'm a student at a target with solid buyside experience at well-known and well regarded shops. My GPA was around a 3.7, but last semester, due to a serious family situation, I ended up failing a course directly relevant to my field. I couldn’t defer since I had to start my internship the next term and wasn’t allowed to take coursework. Now, my GPA has dropped to a 3.4, and I can’t retake the course until the end of next year—meaning it won’t be on my transcript in time for junior year recruiting.
I've tried to appeal, but nothing has worked. Given the timelines, I’m worried about how this will impact my recruiting chances. Is my shot at top firms completely screwed, or is there a way to mitigate this?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Not sugarcoating it, unless by some miracle you bump it back up to a 3.8, then yes. Having done recruiting for banking and PE, there are just too many qualified candidates that we don’t need to make exceptions for edge cases. That being said not impossible!
