Do you need to be bilingual to work in the UK?

I have my UK citizenship and in the long-term want to move to London, but unfortunately I only speak English fluently.

Most of the postings I have seen for jobs out of London require speaking another European language. While I understand the usefulness, both at work and otherwise, of speaking another language, is it a necessary prerequisite for being competitive for UK based jobs in PE/VC?

No, you don’t need to have a knowledge of another European language but if you can speak one it is a plus point.

  1. London is the main Financial service provider in the EU.
  2. Every BB has its HQ of EMEA in London.

Etc etc.
