Getting an edge as a Private Equity Associate

Hello all,

Wondering if anyone has a view on what could be learnt / done / read for an PE Associate to develop an edge and distinguish oneself from its peers, both within your fund but also on the employment market? First things that would come to mind (these are just examples) would be speaking another language (I am already covering a different market than the one I am working in), developing coding / data skills...

As a background, I am a second-year associate in a middle market fund in Europe, which I joined last year after doing 3 years of IB. I want to be better at my job but also polish my profile should I need / want to move in the coming years.

Would be great to have the views of people senior in this industry and happy to have the views of everyone else!

Thanks.
