Going back to investment banking after PE?

Has anyone heard of someone doing this? I'm currently at a rando LMM PE fund and headed to an M7 MBA school (not H/S). A handful of people from my program go to PE every year and it's primarily other rando LMM funds, which doesn't really sound that appealing to me for a variety of reasons, inc. dealing with the daily grind and minutia, taking a major hit to cash comp, carry not panning out longterm, general commodification of the space, existential fundraising risks, etc.

Since I like and am good at finance in general, I'd think I would have a very good shot at landing an associate role at a GS/MS/EVR/PJT type firm coming out of school and would likely excel there relative to other associates since I've done all of this stuff before. Any thoughts on the transition and anyone think about making a similar move in the past?

Did you need the mba to go associate at the banks you mentioned?

No i don't think so. I'm planning on going primarily for the vacation / social aspect with networking, classes, etc. as secondary considerations. I think OCI will make it way easier to target specific firms than lateraling too and will give me a clean slate re: industry focus, etc.
