How to make the move in PE: LDN >> USA ?
Hi all,
I was wondering if you know how to make the move in PE (or IBD as I suppose it is not much different) from London to USA (thinking NYC but also LA and SF as I guess it is very different).
I guess an MBA would help do the transition, but is it possible without one? Recruiting would be a nightmare that's why I'm asking, just Visa and travel would be too much of a hussle for a firm to try and have candidates from the other side of the atlantic ..
What do you guys think?
It's going to be extremely difficult given the current Visa situation. You'd have a shot if you are currently working for a BB in London and get transferred with a L-1 Visa then MBA after 1-2 years and finally try to move to PE. But Visa will be an issue again... Conclusion: go find a wife with US passport...
Yeah that's what I was thinking .. Thanks .. I'm sorry to hear you had to come back to Europe because of Visa issues .. Have you been able to find a job in London? How hard was recruiting compared to the US? Thanks
I was supposed to go to London but we found a way to get me back to the US with a L-1 Visa. Recruiting in London is tough atm.. Especially because of Brexit. I interviewed with HHs (blackwood, DP, Arkesden,...) and only 2 of them had mandates for junior positions (Associate) in PE fund. Good luck!
