Industry Maturity

To the more senior members on this board, how would you recommend navigating the PE industry given how mature and saturated it is. I understand that it is probably more strategic to go to a newer fund, to avoid getting stuck in the VP/Principal area but how would you weigh going to a newer fund, where this is more risk vs. to a more established one
